Pomerene Hospital is hosting its annual Memory Garden ‘Memorial and Butterfly Release’ on Sunday, June 27th. The ceremony will include a butterfly release and special music. All are welcome. The memory garden is located behind the Amish House and employee parking lot.
The ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. with music beginning at 2:30 p.m. The ceremony will include a devotional, special music, a tribute to “Heaven’s babies,” the placement of new memorial stones and the release of 60 painted lady butterflies into Pomerene Hospital’s Memory Garden. The event will take place rain or shine and those attending will be shaded under a tent. A dessert reception will immediately follow.
The memory garden, which was constructed in 2011, serves as a place where families can go to enjoy the serenity of the garden and remember their loved ones.
Toni Mishler, Bereavement Coordinator at Pomerene Hospital expressed her excitement for this year’s event. “We strongly encourage the public to come and witness this beautiful event, both for perinatal loss awareness and the efforts put forth by Pomerene to encourage healing.”
The memory garden is a part of Pomerene Hospital’s ‘Lifting Hearts’ bereavement program, which addresses individual needs of families who have experienced the death of an infant at any stage of development. It promotes an interdisciplinary approach to reach out to grieving families from the moment their baby passes away through the period of grieving.
